Can AI predict stock-outs? The boxes nobody ordered

A true story from hamper season: an urgent order, a store room with no boxes, and a courier at the door with boxes nobody on my team had ordered.

Adnyesh Dalpati · 3 min read

Quick answer Yes, an AI ops employee can see a stock-out coming. In hamper season nobody on my team checked the boxes. When an urgent order came, the store room was empty, and boxes take 3 to 4 days. Then a courier arrived: Raghu, my ZNOS AI employee, had seen them running out 4 days earlier and ordered them on Amazon.

The reel this story comes from (YouTube Short, under a minute).

Hamper season. Nobody checked the boxes.

We were busy fulfilling gift hampers. Orders everywhere. And nobody noticed the boxes were running out. Not me, not anyone on my team.

Then it came. An urgent order. I opened the store room.

Empty. Not one box.

Boxes take three to four days. We didn't have three days.

A knock on the door

A courier. With boxes. Boxes nobody ordered.

Who did this? Nobody in my team knew. We were stunned.

Then my phone buzzed: "Sir, your boxes are delivered. Hope orders can be sent on time."

It was Raghu. Four days earlier, he saw the boxes running out, and ordered them on Amazon.

What this means for your business

  • Stock-outs are not only about products. Boxes, tape, labels and inserts run out too, and without them nothing ships.
  • Lead time is the real deadline. If boxes take 3 to 4 days, the time to act is 4 days before you run out, not the day you notice.
  • Busy weeks are when checks slip. In peak season everyone is packing. That is exactly when somebody needs to be watching the shelf.

How ZNOS handles it

Raghu owns operations on the ZNOS AI team: daily tasks, dispatch, delays and stock-out alerts. He watches the numbers while the team works. For more of what he does in a day, read the agentic AI workflows a brand can run every day, and for the night he saved the website, the 3 AM call.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI predict stock-outs?

Yes. An AI ops employee can watch how fast stock or packaging is being used and how long new supplies take to arrive, and flag or act before you run out, instead of after.

What happened in the boxes story?

It was hamper season and nobody checked the boxes. An urgent order came in and the store room was empty. Boxes take 3 to 4 days. Then a courier delivered boxes nobody on the team had ordered.

Who ordered the boxes?

Raghu, my AI ops employee. Four days earlier he saw the boxes running out and ordered them on Amazon. His message: "Sir, your boxes are delivered. Hope orders can be sent on time."

Why do packaging stock-outs hurt D2C brands?

Without boxes you cannot ship, even with products in stock. If boxes take days to arrive, one missed check can delay every order in that window.

Is this story real?

Yes. It is Adi's own account, published as a reel on YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn and X on 5 November 2026. The reel uses Adi's AI avatar and mock screens.
